Critters Jan. 11-12, 2003

I normally head out around sundown, but for reasons that need not be enumerated, I started at dawn this time. A White Ibis sittin' in a tree. A Little Yeller Feller. A Purple Galinule tiptoes around. Galinule climbs a branch. Morning light cast a warm glow on this Little Blue Heron. A Great Blue prepares for touchdown. Cormorant on the wing. I thought only dogs could do this, and frankly, I'm rather surprised that a Heron would even want to. As you can see, this is a popular spot with photographers. Lousy shot, though, I didn't join the lineup. A Wood Stork. Ibis in flight. Sunday, I went to Big Cypress National Preserve for the first time. Here, a White Ibis hangs out in the Cypress swamp. I think this is a Some Other Colored Ibis. An Egret under heavy braking, preparing for a mid-air u-turn. A dignified looking Something Or Other.
